Tommy bypassed CEO and collected $200 because he considers the CEO title to be the kiss of death for a home services company. Coca-Cola and Delta may need a CEO to talk shareholders off the ledge, but what a roofing company needs is boots on the roof; sleeves-up leaders, a client-centric staff, and happy, darn good roofers.
He grew up in Webster City, Iowa (Lynx), not far from The Field of Dreams, and spent most of the 1980s roofing his way through college (B.A. accounting, Northern Iowa (Panthers) and M.S. industrial & management engineering, Iowa (Hawkeyes; maybe you’ve heard of Jim Yong Kim, George Kittle, or Caitlin Clark)). He’d like us to mention that his mom was one of the last one-room schoolhouse teachers, serving a stint in 1944-45 at Everly, Iowa (Cattlefeeders).
He, Kathy, and the boys (Vinny and Phillip; Danny came later) moved to Atlanta in 1987, and in ‘89 Accent Roofing was launched from a Lilburn garage with a fleet consisting of one ’73 Ranchero.
At first, Tommy did all the work himself and still has the handshake to prove it. As a boss of one, he controlled the jobsite radio and memorized all the Top 40 songs and all the country songs. A carryover from his roofing days is that he often has a song in his head and hums it all day. One day it’s “Copacabana,” the next it’s “Whiskey River,” and the next, “Welcome Back, Kotter.” After all, your dreams are your ticket out.
On a crazy day, it might be something like “Summerboy” or “Lose Yourself.” Look out!
Career highlights include buying his first nail gun (1990), first conveyor, first beeper, and first truck less than 10 years old. His first flip-phone, laptop, and smartphone are also up there, as is Accent attaining GAF’s President’s Club III (top 1% of the top 2%), and winning the nationwide Angie’s List Expert Article Contest in 2013.
According to Tommy, not just anybody can get a photo op with the real Angie.
But nothing compares to the thousands of wonderful clients he’s met nor the people with whom he’s privileged to work, a roster he describes as “a beautiful group of HQHBs (high quality human beings).”
The pillars he’s built on for 36 years are culture and community. He insists that the workplace be a safe place—physically and emotionally—and has always aimed to give clients the best contractor experience they’ve ever had: “Aim high and hold your aim.”
His legacy at Accent might be as a bestower of nicknames. His explanation: “They just pop in there, like the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters.”
Accent has individuals who answer to Snappy, Top Cat, Pappagiorgio, Maserati, Midnight, Millions, Emazing, Kathy Poppins, Hollywood, Reverend, Meathook, Clark Kent, McMelissa, Flash, Dammit, Big Ticket, Two Fingers, Clavosamanos, and Deke (short for deacon, see Creighton bio).
Having worked his way down the ladder, Tommy focuses on encouraging the team and getting past the overcrowded “poquito” level of Spanish. His passions include Accent’s flagship cause, Uncle Pigskin, as well as Weapons Grade Prayer (his book, due out in February of 2026), real golf, ballroom dance, and of course Kathy, whom he describes as “the Trophy Babe I snagged when we were 20. It’s cheaper that way.”
He's intrigued by artificial intelligence and hopes it will develop the vanishing tattoo so that he can express his opinions yet not run out of room.
The best advice he has ever received is, “Find a way to stay in constant contact with your sense of gratitude.”
Fun Fact: No matter how stiff his muscles and joints might be, Tommy always pops right up out of his chair because fast standers look younger than slow standers. That is a fact, and it’s a fun fact. Accent Roofing is 99.44% platitude-free.

Described by his peers as “the one guy in this industry with whom I would not want to compete,” Phillip has been president since 2021 and continues to execute his vision of steady, sensible growth without diluting the client experience. So far, so good.
A Collins Hill (Eagles) grad, Army veteran, and Alabama (‘Tide) alum, Phillip has excelled at virtually every role Accent has to offer, including laborer, installer, crew foreman, repair technician, production manager, estimator, sales manager, marketing manager, fleet manager, risk manager, reputation manager, warranty service manager, and general manager.
Much like a coach’s kid who grew up watching game film, he’s been around roofing most of his life and is a multi-certified expert in residential roofing. He’s also a borderline fanatic about communication, processes, protocols, infrastructure, and team goals. He coined and often uses the acronym “EBN,” which stands for “Exhausting But Necessary.”
Phillip’s go-to management tutorials are classics by Dale Carnegie and Jim Collins, respectively: “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” and “Good to Great.” You can tell he has a knack for leadership because when he laughs—which is often—he gets back to the business at hand sooner than everyone else.
Explaining the difference between his style of leadership and Phillip’s, Tommy says, “I was the roofing equivalent of Mark Richt, and Phillip is the roofing equivalent of Kirby Smart. Fans count on him and players love him. Just substitute clients for fans and employees for players.”
For those who prefer a golf metaphor, Tommy was Arnie and Phillip is Jack.
Clients and team members alike describe Phillip as sincere and accessible, and his name appears often among the company’s 3,300 five-star reviews. Having assembled and trained an elite management team, his primary focus is on refining the client experience. To that end, he devotes himself to training, branding, technology, and equipping employees to make “big plays.”
A lifelong student of the craft and industry, he has several significant innovations to his credit. These include pioneering full-time project managers in 2017, the development of a consultative sales system (as opposed to the industry’s standard, high pressure, one call close system), the development of a customized CRM, and the implementation of a meaningful and distinctive client rewards program.
From 2024 through August of 2025, starting from scratch and bringing over 20 years of experience to the effort, he wrote and digitized a robust, interactive sales training curriculum. Already among the most professional and expert reps in the industry, the Thunderbirds continue to grow under Phillip’s guidance.
He takes keen interest in the company’s benevolence program, the flagships of which are two macro-ministries; Habit for Humanity and the Humane Society, and four micro-ministries; Uncle Pigskin, Toot Your Horn, Roofborne 101and Silver Shingles. His default position on corporate giving is to never say no to a rec league team, marching band, 10k, golf scramble, military veteran, food bank, first responder, PTA, or Girl Scout.
He’s amused by competitors who state their experience in fractions of a decade (e.g., “half a decade,” “the better part of a decade.”). He’s also amused by his dog, Chloe the Boxer, and his emergency backup dog, Bailey the Bulldog. His favorite TV channel is Nat Geo.
When not on the premises, Phillip and his wife, Katie, enjoy North Georgia’s outdoor life and time on Lake Hartwell with their daughter, Kylee, and whichever friend Kylee brings along. He’s training for the triathlon but finds that, with each passing day, his muscles and joints are more attracted to the siren call of Pickleball.
Of late, to balance his strict diet of TV nature shows, Katie has been force-feeding him low doses of HGTV (“Love It or List It”), which he reluctantly enjoys. He refuses to name his karaoke song, but speculation is that it would be the Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction.”
A Level 5 leader not given to self-promotion, the one boast Phillip allows himself is that he has every client he has ever spoken to in his contacts and greets each by name when picking up. His cell number is 770-266-8918 if you’d like to test that boast.
As that rare lady who hides an inexhaustible work ethic behind a disarming smile, Kathy might just go down in history as the last Mom at the last Mom ‘n Pop shop in the roofing business. Little did she know, when she married Tommy in 1981, that her background in therapeutic recreation and interior design (University of Northern Iowa, same as NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner) would one day come in mighty handy around here.
Kathy was born and raised in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School (Roughriders). She never says, “Des Moines, Iowa” because she believes that everyone knows about Des Moines.
Gondolier: “Welcome to Venice! Where are you from?”
Kathy: “Des Moines.”
Gondolier: “Where is this Des Moines you speak of?”
Kathy: “Surely you’re joking, Mr. Gondolier.”
For 36 years and counting, Kathy has done anything that needs doing at Accent. She has delivered samples, answered the phone, consulted clients on color selection (her favorite!), balanced the books, rejoiced with those who rejoice, mourned with those who mourn, and distributed countless hugs. She’s a good-hearted woman in love with a good roofin’ man.
As our human resources czar, Kathy has access to sensitive employee information. As our hospitality czar, she uses that information to make every birthday, work anniversary, engagement, and birth a big deal.
As quartermaster of the snacks, she may be on a philosophical collision course with RFK, Jr. due to her unofficial motto;” All for Cheez-Its, and Cheez-Its for All. “Looking for bottled water? Kathy is your source for high-quality H20.
She also handles the World’s Best Office Christmas Party, the Thanksgiving Pie Palooza, and various recreational company outings. In her spare time, she updates the common areas whether they need updating or not.
On social media she follows anything having to do with dogs or cats. She campaigned to make Accent a dog-friendly work environment, which was the seminal event in the creation of Stacy and Emily’s tongue-in-jowl subsidiary, Accent Woofing (Neckerchiefs available upon request).
Kathy has been described by hundreds of clients as friendly, warm, helpful, genuine, and approachable. But just to illustrate that nobody can please everybody, she was once—and only once—described by one grumpy client as “the most unfriendliest person I ever had dealings with in my whole dang life.” Can you see that line on an apron or a set of coasters?
When her nest emptied in 2017, Kathy doubled down on dance. Her recent dances include a West Coast/Hustle to “Boogie Shoes,” an East Coast/Foxtrot to “Summer in the City,” and a Cha-Cha to “I Will Survive.”
Wait. What?
She can also bust out a Tango, Salsa, Peabody, or Viennese Waltz upon request, but please do not suggest any dancing between 8 and 5. We’ve got work to do around here, dang it.
Youngest of the Scribbins boys, Danny brings a wealth of experience to clients and a reliable supply of encouragement to the team. He especially enjoys the cultural diversity of metro Atlanta. One of several dedicated “foodies” on our sales team, he loves walking into a home that smells like something’s cooking, and he’ll never say no if a sample is offered; the more exotic, the better.
As a master of GAF’s Pro Field—the industry’s benchmark for residential roofing expertise—Danny works hard to find practical solutions to unique roofing problems. At just 28, he holds Accent’s third-highest career rank for number of jobs sold, trailing only Phillip Scribbins and Matt Mitchell, two salty veterans whom Danny aims to hawk down before he turns 30. That’s lofty stuff.
An old soul by nature and nurture, Danny’s parents were ancient (39) when he was born, and his brothers were well into their teens. In the spirit of Will Rogers, he’s never met a person he doesn’t like, makes new friends at a rate of about one per day, and can effortlessly weave vintage sayings into conversation. These include “Rode hard and put away wet,” “Dollar waiting on a dime,” and “Let your fingers do the walking.”
Known as “Top Cat” due to his relaxed nature, competence, and pre-2020 tendency to be awake at the crack of dawn by the simple expedient of not going to bed in the first place, Danny is in Year Three of home ownership. He and Stacy live in Winder with Spaniel pup Archie and stunning feline Amelia. He also houses a high-maintenance bearded dragon which measures 10”, weighs in at a pound and a half, and is oblivious to its name (Gus).
Besides being capable in the kitchen and on the grill, Danny loves to travel, is a budding barista, a student of meads, a water sports enthusiast, and a landscaping nut.
He plays a decent guitar and has written dozens of songs, most of which have an upbeat tempo and lovestruck lyrics. He and Sandy, whom he’s known since he was seven, can conduct entire conversations using nothing but movie lines.
A curious student of world cultures, faiths, and lore, he’s a gifted, left-handed sketch artist, loves to attend obscure festivals and conventions, and stays in good enough shape to run in the rota of 10Ks which Accent supports each year.
His favorite Accent charity is Habitat, and if forced to perform karaoke—which wouldn’t take much forcing--his choice would be either Sinatra’s “World on a String” or the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song, with emphasis on the sound effects when “the weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed.”
Rough weather. Roofing. Get it?
Danny’s latest diversion is Survival Prep, not because he fears an apocalypse but because he enjoys making a list and checking it thrice. Plus, it calls to mind his many years as a Boy Scout, where he attained the rank of Star before falling victim to ‘fumes; car fumes and perfumes (Scouting’s oldest joke).
After all, in addition to being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent, a Scout—like a great sales team leader—is always prepared.
Fun Fact: Danny has the Accent Rooster tattoo on his left calf. He planned it, he paid for it, and the world keeps spinning. It’s not as extreme as the Yellowstone brand, but it’ll do.
When Phillip moved up from General Manager to President in 2021, we left the GM slot vacant because Phillip is a hard-running horse who wanted to wear both hats. In late 2024 he finally asked for “a little help,” so we took the plunge and retained a recruiter to conduct a nationwide search for the best man.
That search ended four months later in our own back yard, and the best man turned out to be a woman by the name of Jessica Laurio. What struck us about Jess was her 20-year resume with three successful stops, plus the fact that she seemed—and has indeed turned out—to be a master with the velvet hammer, a vital yet mostly forgotten tool in the roofing biz.
Behind her soft voice and sweet smile lie the eyes of an eagle, the heart of a lion, and the toughness of a mule, which is not to say she’s stubborn. On the contrary, she’s a great yet humble team builder and a baroness of buy-in, with an uncommon knack for keeping all hands pulling in the same direction.
Jess is a master of “feelings management,” which comes in mighty handy in an industry overrun by bulls in a China shop. Gone are the days when Phillip, Tommy, Creighton, and Gary thought everyone was happy even if they weren’t. Now, people—clients and employees alike-- are happy for certain, and if someone isn’t, we find out about it right away and can get to work on it right away. Who knew?
Jess’s wealth of roof-related experience includes five years of inside sales with a prominent distributor along with 16 years in HR, marketing, and operations management with two leading residential roofing contractors. She’s never burned a single bridge, which means she has muchas conexiones in the industry, which in turn means she can make things happen when lesser GMs can’t.
The “vibe” Jess gives off is that she knows her stuff and really cares, and it’s an accurate vibe. We didn’t know this before we hired her, but it turns out that the secret sauce for a great GM is to be the boss without being bossy. Jess checks that box day in and day out.
Born and raised in Grayson, she now hangs her hat in Bethlehem with her fiancé, Steven, and their 15 year-old son, Trentin. Pooches Caitlyn and Kane complete the family.
She doesn’t yet have a nickname, but with her outsized personality it’s just a matter of time. She lists UGA football and Braves baseball as favored pastimes, and she backed that up by being the only person who watched the whole thing when the Accent bunch took in a Braves game this past summer. She also loves anything outdoorsy and doing renovation projects. You can do it, Jess can help!
Jess’s dream vacays are Bora Bora, Hawaii, and Italy, and her dream vehicle is a Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport. Her retirement ideal is the beach, her radio station is 94.9 The Bull, and her karaoke go-to is “Strawberry Wine.”
Excellent choice, just as Jess was an excellent choice for Accent Roofing and our clients.
“Every morning at the office you’ll see him arrive, he stands six foot six and weighs 245. Kinda broad at the shoulder and skinny at the hip, and everybody knows you don’t give no lip to Big Creighty, Big Creighty, Big Bad Creighty.”
That, of course, is a paraphrase of Jimmy Dean’s classic song, “Big John,” and it’s all true except that Creighton’s not bad. He’s a good man who’s internally famous for the quote, “Big guys need a hug, too.” A friendly fellow, lover of puns, and incessant purveyor of corny Dad jokes, he’s quite huggable.
Production Director around here means Creighton is responsible for everything that happens after a job is sold; the actual execution of full roofs, repairs, restoration, and warranty service. It’s his job, ultimately, to see that we keep every promise made to every client, and he does a magnificent job.
Is it a high-pressure job? Yes, it is. Does Creighton come across like a person who’s “too blessed to be stressed?” Yes, he does. It’s a match made in heaven; a big, steady hand on a big, fast wheel.
Now in his eighth year at Accent, Creighton is one of two team members who started out as a client (see Bobby Wiggins). Tommy was the estimator that day, and Creighton’s effervescent wife, Maggie, joined the conversation, along with their toddler daughter, June. First, they solved the roofing issue, which was a simple, $350 problem for which the Deasys had already received exorbitant quotes from other roofers.
Next, they discussed vacationing on a budget, public education vs. home schooling, cloth diapers vs. disposable diapers, gas vs. electric, food insecurity, home economics, and eternity, all in 45 minutes flat. Not long after, Creighton was out of his middle-management gig with New Belgium Brewing (he’s still a beer snob) and into his entry-level gig as an onsite supervisor (the second one we ever hired).
A native of Erie, PA., the same hometown as Gary (What are the odds?), Creighton grew up in Dunwoody and graduated from St. Pius High School (Golden Lions). He then earned a degree in fine arts from UGA. As he’s the gentlest of giants, you’d never guess that he also has years of boxing and martial arts training under his belt.
A devout yet light-hearted Catholic (he doesn’t know that his office is known as “The Grotto”), Creighton already has his dream car, a Subaru van, and his big dream is to become a deacon when his nest, which is full with June, Miles, Kate, and in-laws, clears out.
Meantime, in addition to leading a team of about two dozen great people, he loves road trips, camping, playing, and learning with his family. As head of Accent’s benevolent arm, he arranges three to five roofing projects each year with Habitat for Humanity, coordinates Roofborne 101, and heads up our new Silver Shingle initiative, which provides free roof repairs to elderly and infirm homeowners in need.

Fun Fact: One of the best videos in Accent history is a spontaneous, unedited, 87-second classic featuring then-toddler Miles in pajamas, fresh out of the bath with a mop of damp, uncombed hair, happily proclaiming that his destiny is to become a “roofing man” just like Dad: “Big truck, big tool box, big ladder, blue work hat, blue work shirt, blue work pants, boots. You know, all that stuff!”
One person here has watched that video at least 100 times and still laughs every time.
Perhaps no one in the outfit enjoys more respect and affection than Gary. Born in the polka region of Pennsylvania (Erie, to be precise) and raised in Snellville, Gary’s career at Accent began at a TV tray in the corner and charted a steady course from lower left toward upper right. As our Finance Manager (de facto CFO), he now has a nice office with a door to an adjoining office where his adoring staff runs a tight financial ship.
A product of Brookwood High (Broncos), where he played on the golf team and gained an unfair advantage for life, and UGA (summa cum laude BBA, Finance), Gary is the only man in the outfit who religiously participates in Friday Spirit Day and owns an inexhaustible supply of Bulldog swag. A devoted son, he has a standing Friday lunch date with his mom, Connie, a retired teacher, Polka Queen, and Accent part-timer.
Now in his eleventh year as the steady hand on the finance wheel, Gary is pleased and proud to have become, along the way, a devoted husband to Anna, a doting dad to Little Jack, an indulgent master to “foster fail” JoJo, a proud resident of Tucker, and that rare Zillennial* who’s free of student debt and off to the races.
Although his purview is anything and everything having to do with finances, he has acquired an uncanny roofing vocabulary which can be heard as he paces the hallway conducting sometimes animated negotiations with the supply house. His fluency in roofing lingo has also resulted in the eradication of the long line of roofers and salespeople who used to line up outside the payroll door every Friday seeking “clarification.”
“I’ll clarify you,” said Gary, and with that, 25 years of “compensation creativity” came to a screeching halt.
He’s a wizard with Xactimate, the insurance industry’s estimating software, and is always friendly, patient, and accommodating with clients seeking details or explanations on anything having to do with money.
An unassuming personality who’s bafflingly “connected,” Gary’s the kind of guy who could show up on a Monday morning in April and say something like, “Sorry I’m late, guys. I spent a long day in Augusta yesterday, helping Scottie with the yips, and then Jim Nance wanted to have a beer,” and nobody would doubt him or be surprised.
Generally, of a reserved and quiet temperament, Gary’s ready, boisterous, and contagious laugh would be a perfect fit in an Irish Pub. He’s a pickleball enthusiast (nut), and his favorite radio station is 680 The Fan. If ever forced to karaoke, he’s prepared to belt out R. Kelly’s “Bump ‘n Grind.”
As a Renaissance Man who’s full of surprises, he could probably pull it off. After all, those who had the pleasure of attending Gary and Anna’s wedding reception in 2020 report that the groom was born to boogie.
Talk about bandwidth.
*According to Artificial Intelligence—how did we ever get by without it?-- Zillennials are a “sub-set of Millennials and considered socially and emotionally intelligent, digitally comfortable, nostalgic for the ‘90s and 2000s, and inclined toward brand loyalty (especially Starbucks).” Another bullseye for AI.
This just in: Amanda’s nickname is “Tink.” Nobody here knows the back story because we just found out, but we’ll dig deeper and update this bio as more information becomes available. In early betting on the source of that nickname, the smart money is on Grandpa.
Now then…being a real repair manager of a real repair department at a real roofing company requires a “particular set of skills,” and Amanda has more skills than Napoleon Dynamite.
The first box to check is thick skin and a steady temperament. Clients who call in with leaks tend to be in a frame of mind ranging from mild concern to outright panic because a roof leak is to home ownership as a toothache is to oral health; it hurts like crazy, and you want to get rid of it now! Amanda’s upbringing in Illinois farm country seems to have prepared her to remain calm in the face of such hell and high water. This has a reassuring effect on clients, which is repeatedly reflected in Amanda’s reviews.
The next box is roofing acumen and aptitude. One might suspect that a man might be better suited for this role, but we’ve tried men, and Amanda laps them. Again, this may have to do with her farming pedigree, coupled with her 20-year marriage to TJ. TJ doesn’t work here, but he’s the most absurdly capable person we know, with a skill set spanning aviation mechanics to theatrical set design to BBQ sauce. More than likely, he’s an Eagle Scout to boot.
Speaking of BBQ sauce, TJ and Amanda have their own fledgling brand— “Blue Collar Army BBQ Sauce”—and it’s coming on strong. While we generally frown upon employee side gigs, we feel that the chasm between roofing and condiments is sufficiently wide to warrant a one-time waiver of the non-compete thing-a-majiggy.
The final box is to command the respect of the repair technicians, a rare breed of craftsmen known to be proud, capable, fearless, fit, and fiercely independent. Somehow, owing to some secret power, Amanda has managed to get all the repair techs to be scared to death of her.
And that’s the way—uh-huh, uh-huh—we like it. If there’s a bustle in your repair department, don’t be alarmed now; it’s just a spring clean for the Queen Bee.
An incurable and unapologetic Cubs fan with a voracious appetite for all sports, Amanda could leave here today, start a sports talk podcast tomorrow, and have 100,000 downloads by the end of the week. Fortunately for Accent and our clients, she’s been here eight years and has no plans to leave unless TJ buys her a place in Italy or Greece, a prospect which Amanda assesses as, “Unlikely any time soon, at least not until these expensive teenagers of mine (Sophie and Travis) are out of school.”
A this writing, Sophie is headed for Louisiana to study underwater welding (figures), but li’l bro Travis will be around for a few more years.
Whew.
Fun Fact: Each time she returns from visiting Illinois, Amanda brings breaded pork tenderloins the size of Frisbees to share with two lucky employees.
George started at Accent in the year 3 B.F. (Before the Fire at our Airport Road location, which was caused by our chintzy landlord hiring a drifter to install an exhaust fan in exchange for all the scrap metal he could salvage from the dumpster) and is our most consistently reviewed project manager. Translated, that means he’s been with us for seven years, during which time he’s earned the nickname “Flash” on account of his penchant for being everywhere all the time, including two countries.
Capable, energetic, and multi-talented as well as friendly, cheerful, and sincere, George’s greatest strength is “people skills.” Clients ask for him by name, project supervisors seek him out for coaching, and he has, over time, drifted into a role as the “Creighton Whisperer”.
As Creighton’s right hand, George makes up one half of an enviable one-two punch of production efficiency, overseeing the quality assurance (defect prevention) side of our Total Production Quality (TPQ) model. In that role, he has introduced several refinements to our training system for supervisors, emphasizing practicality and repeatability.
George championed our transition to bilingual project managers, an innovation which led to soaring reviews from clients and soaring loyalty among installers and supervisors. He had a great idea, field-tested it, and made it the industry’s gold standard (many competitors followed with cheaper, watered-down versions but have yet to catch up).
Devoted brother to Michelle and bother-in-law to Gabe, George’s fondest wish is to bring his wife of three years (Sissy) and two-year-old daughter (Gianna) to Lawrenceville from Mexico. He continues to try to do it “the right way,” at significant expense, and makes several trips to visit them each year, during which he sends dozens of adorable photos which elicit a collective “Awww” from the gang back at Accent HQ.
In this respect, he’s somewhat like a soldier deployed abroad, and he handles the separation with resolve and optimism. His faith and determination are an inspiring, upward call to others.
Born and raised in Sugar Hill, he met and married Sissy while in Mexico for an extended period to care for elderly relatives. During that trip he also made time for side gigs as a DJ and a model (fully clothed).
A workaholic by nature, he had some difficulty coming up with the facts that his dream vacation is to Thailand, his favorite entertainers are Ken Flores and Rene Vaca, his favorite pastime is reading, his favorite teams are the Falcons and Braves, and his karaoke song is “Tequila,” which is a smart choice because he’s got enough on his plate without having to worry about memorizing lyrics.
Although he won’t find out about it until this bio appears online, George has been tapped, along with Michelle, to spearhead the company’s immersive Spanish tutoring program for all interested English-only employees. We’re sure that when George catches wind of this he’ll say, “Of course I’ll do it! Uh, does it pay extra?”
Maybe. Perhaps. Quizas. Talvez. Nosotros veremos.
As she interned at Accent and studied marketing at Georgia State, the unanimous assumption was that Emily would one day graduate and be off to Silicon Valley. There she would promote tech start-ups, give Ted Talks, save the Tufted Tree Toad, and send postcards depicting her trendy life and achievements.
But a funny thing happened on the way to graduation; management freaked out and decided we had to keep her. Because she’s brainy, creative, and motivated, we knew it was a longshot, but we gave it our best shot and it worked. Maybe that’s because, at the end of the day, she loves nothing more than her family, friends, the Yellow Jackets, and Accent Roofing.
Nine years later Emily loves her job, and we love her, and she’s the envy of all contractors trying to figure out how to make their phones ring. Note to competitors: Drop the job offer—easy, now--and keep your hands where we can see them.
Both hemispheres of a marketing director’s brain must hit on all cylinders; numbers must be crunched with steely detachment and human nature must be studied with ever-evolving insight. Emily’s brain checks all the boxes, which makes perfect sense when one considers that her dad is a nuclear engineer and her mom is a former PTA president and Team Mom Extraordinaire.
Her door is always open for ideas and updates and questions except when it’s closed with a sign that reads something like, “Get lost! We’re brainstorming!”
With an appreciation for all demographics from “first job” to “retired in style,” one of the services Emily provides is to keep this Mom ‘n Pop shop from becoming too Mom ‘n Poppy. That’s a tall order considering that her chihuahua, Indie, is a seventh-year employee who has her own space and complete run of the joint, including the president’s desk.
Working closely with our creative director, Stacy, and our unofficial pedal-to-the-metal officer, Phillip, Emily is the ultimate metaphor for plate-spinning. One minute she’s analyzing the budget or writing a survey, the next she’s shopping for the best deal on an order of Accent Woofing neckerchiefs, and the next she’s somewhere on the daunting continuum connecting those extremes.
Emily has never met a chart she can’t interpret and never lets an obscure holiday pass without decorating her office. She also keeps a collection of cords for every conceivable electronic device and loans them out along with a stern warning as to what will happen if they are not returned in a timely fashion.
A card-carrying, second-generation “fairness fairy,” Emily always pulls for the underdog, which means she loves bands nobody’s ever heard of and roofers who fear heights. It also means she’s going to have a pleasant conundrum on her hands if Georgia Tech’s football team keeps winning.
Beloved by team members and clients, respected by media reps, and feared by sellers of snake oil, Emily asserts that she’s only just begun. And of course we believe her, because why wouldn’t we?
Fun Fact: Emily can turn her “Dalton Accent” on and off at her lil’ ol’ will.
A deep thinker and Zen presence with a surprising sense of fun and adventure, Stacy is a creative force of nature. While it’s everyone else’s job to make sure clients get what they see, she works hand in glove with Emily to make sure that clients see what they get. She’s not sure if that makes her the chicken or the egg, but we’re sure that it makes her essential.
She earned her degree in marketing management at Gwinnett Tech and gained some bona fides at a digital marketing firm for two years before joining Accent in 2021. From her sanctuary/command center at the front of the building—fittingly, the only office that requires a U-turn to reach—she considers the 50,000 motorists who pass by on any given day and how she might better inform and entertain them.
As our resident photographer, videographer, producer, and content manager for all print and digital communications, Stacy brings discipline and spontaneity to a job which comes with no playbook. In her unique role, each day calls for a series of audibles at the line of scrimmage. With Spaniel Archie at her feet, (he thinks he’s at school, and Stacy is the perfect teacher), her Newmanian attitude toward her high-pressure job is, “What? Me Worry?”
She’s known for triple-checking every word that comes from her lips and every image that goes out to the public. As our social media gatekeeper, she embraces task variety and has a knack for nuanced images and subtle humor which are easy to appreciate but hard to describe. Readers best go have a look-see.
A Harry Potter junky and charter member of a group known by the founders as, “The Young Geniuses,” Stacy’s awareness of past and present cultural trends is keen, and her command of trivia is downright intimidating. In a word, she’s Mensa material all the way.
Her favorite teams are the Braves and Atlanta United. She enjoys “literally all” genres of music, and her favorite Accent cause is Habitat for Humanity, where her involvement in each project is extensive. She looks forward to her first cruise this spring (destination classified). Beyond the cruise, her dream vacation is a hat trick including Iceland, Scotland, and Greece.
A native of Lawrenceville, she shares a very very very fine house in Winder with her partner, Danny, along with Archie, Amelia the cat, and Gus the bearded dragon. While she doesn’t have an official nickname, “Brookins” likes being called by her surname just like the guys, which is cool because we’re a roofing outfit and we have lots of guys.
"We're on Top of It" is our official motto, but we also have several internal sub-mottos. One is, "We Mind Our Own Business," and Laura is the gold standard for that one. As long as she's at her post as second in command of accounting, the possibility of a data breach is absolute zero.
A fourth year Accent veteran and a decade into her profession, the only classified info she’s ever let slip is that she keeps a stash of vanilla wafers, and she rues the day that intelligence was leaked.
Master of both the "velvet hammer" and Xactimate, Laura is our insurance whisperer. She can work a far-flung desk adjuster like a cowboy wrangling a runaway steer, which translates into no frustration for our clients. Naturally, what she likes best about her job is turning insurance denials into approvals, and her "success scroll" on that front is expansive.
Born and raised in Grayson (Rams), she and her family (fiancé Dan, Dillon, 6, and CJ the girl, 4) live just down the street from Mimi in Loganville, a dynamic which Laura describes as "quite convenient."
As a super busy mom and career lady, Laura's lifestyle often demands burning the candle at both ends, yet she never seems fatigued nor frazzled; quick with a laugh and just as quick back to the books. She handles all accounts receivable and job cost reconciliation, which can be delicate propositions, and has done so for over three years without riling up a single client or ruffling a single TBird's* feathers. Truth.
A yoga enthusiast and accomplished pianist who also enjoys poker, she hopes to adopt a '67 Shelby GT one of these days. Her favorite Accent-sponsored cause is Uncle Pigskin, and her preferred musical genres are heavy metal and hard rock.

From her corner office with a commanding view of our common area/solarium/dance floor/Grand Central, Lindsey could see more action in a day than most team members see in a month just by looking up now and then. But she seldom takes her eyes off her work and seldom pops into a teammate’s office just to shoot the breeze.
Asked to explain the secret of her intensity, she says that her favorite thing about her job is “to get everything on my list done every day.” She’s simultaneously fun, funny, and all business.
As Production Coordinator, Lindsey plans all production work and informs all installers and technicians where to be and when to be there. She handles the lion’s share of our material orders and navigates a complex web of permitting regulations in a trade area that includes over 100 jurisdictions, each with its own, maddening roll of red tape.
In her sixth year at Accent and her third at the production hub, Lindsey developed the thick professional skin required in her role while working in retail sales, ear piercing, customer service, manufacturing, and even as an airbrush specialist and overnight hotel auditor. On top of that experience, she has a great attitude….on purpose. All of which may explain why she inspires so many positive reviews.
At about 40% the physical size of her mentor, Creighton, she commands his 100% respect—don’t make me come up there, boss-- and makes us all look good. Describing her elite performance from an outside perspective, our supplier’s rep asserts that no one in her profession is timelier nor more accurate than Lindsey.
Recently married and still glowing from that event plus a honeymoon cruise, she and Travis make their home in Gainesville with Dexter (a perennial candidate for Sweetest Accent Pooch) and cats Sophie May and Josie.
She enjoys hiking with her hubby and is looking forward to visiting Europe for the first time. Other diversions include diamond art painting, roller skating (she’s done a stint at Sparkles), and concerts. Her dream car is a Bentley, her favorite band is the Goo Goo Dolls, her musical genre is Classic Rock (what a cool lady), and her karaoke go-to is Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste.”
Lindsey’s mantra to live by is, “It’s impossible to get under a wise person’s skin.”

If anyone here strains the 300-word bio limit, it’s Sandy. That’s what happens when you’ve been around for 12 years and are one of the funniest, smartest, and most thoughtful people ever.
Sandy serves as Phillip’s assistant, which means her head’s on a high-velocity swivel and she knows things. Ironically, she is an executive assistant at a company which has few executives (just darn good roofers). If you can’t reach Phillip—which is unlikely—call Sandy and she’ll make some noise for you.
Prior to joining the team in 2012, Sandy had a decade run as an event planner for a prominent medical software outfit but switched gigs to reduce her travel load. Software’s loss was Accent’s gain.
Her connection with the founding family stretches back some 20 years to when her son, Parker, and the youngest Scribbins boy (Danny, now in sales) shared a Cub Scout pack. The boys went on to the upper echelons of Scouting, and the parents became thick as thieves while tagging along on hikes, campouts, and extreme adventures which—unbelievably-- were not against the law back then. (High-powered rifle weekend? What the h*** were they thinking?)
A blazing typist and deadly stenographer—digital recording is for wimps-- Sandy transcribes and chronicles all important meetings. She also handles an endless stream of unique, one-time research assignments and protects Phillip’s calendar with the zeal of a Secret Service agent.
Because she’s so efficient, salespeople often ask for her assistance. Rather than rebuffing them with the news flash that she works exclusively for Phillip, she invariably comes to their rescue. Her explanation for this chink in her professional armor is that the sales guys are “such sweet fellas.”
Despite her outsized personality, Sandy has eluded a nickname. On rare occasions, though, she’s known as The Funny Christian Lady. Those occasions are when she inadvertently lets a salty word or two fly and then shows her contrition by hanging her head and confessing, “I’m still a Christian.”
Proficient in every techno-mode of communication, she considers movie lines to be the most efficient way to make a point. She knows every word of “Young Frankenstein” and can pull out the most fitting one on demand (e.g., “Ya better keep your big mouth shut, Mister!”).
Her movie-line repertoire includes an encyclopedic recall of Gone with the Wind, It’s a Wonderful Life, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Beaches (e.g., “Enough about me let’s talk about you what do you think of me hahaha.”).
Born and “reared” in Johnson City, Tennessee, Sandy loves to recite “tales from the hollers.” Well on her way to happily ever with her significant other, Alan the Scottish Investor, she lives in Dacula with Alan and their pooch, Muffin the Cuddlymutt, whose left eyeball recently popped out during a playful bout with a larger dog but has been popped back in by a Jet Vet at the low, low price of $1,175 and is working just fine.

Matt has a solid, hands-on resume that gives depth to his roofing recommendations and his ability to solve roofing problems in the way that best suits each client’s needs and desires. He joined Roosterville in late 2024 and has already distinguished himself as an uncommonly disciplined, reliable, and productive Thunderbird.
He loves working with a team that works together, supports each other and is bought into the mission of giving each client the best contractor experience they’ve ever had. Asked to comment further because we suspected that he had a few more compliments in the chamber, he added that his career goal is “to prove myself and not disappoint this great company,” then garnished those kind words with a bang: “I wake up every day excited to go to work.”
He’s certified in full stack development in JavaScript and Python, and is HAAG certified for residential storm assessment. Like all Thunderbirds, he has passed the rigorous GAF Pro Field Residential Roofing exam with flying colors.
In the straight-shooting tradition of the company, he describes his job—in 35 words or less—as follows: “I was hired to sell full roofs to clients who need them, repairs to those who don’t, and to give our clients a fighting chance when working with their insurance provider on a borderline case.”
He grew up and resides on the family’s third-generation property outside the charming burg of Good Hope (pop. 326 as of 2020, which means it probably didn’t include Matt’s beautiful, new bride, Naomi, nor the couple’s even newer and also beautiful daughter, Nya).
With previous employment in window installation, kitchen and bath remodeling, home inspection, and years of training in his dad’s shop (to the background music of 97.1 The River), it follows that Matt is building his dream home with his own hands and with Naomi on the tape measure. Once finished, the home will no doubt have a snazzy roof and a custom entry for the family dogs, Kora and Khloe.
Like several other men here, he tried to excuse himself from answering the karaoke question. Accordingly, he has been assigned his choice of “Rockin’ Robin” or “Puppy Love.” Recently, 23 and Me informed him that he is Croatian and Mexican, which raised a few eyebrows because his mom was born and raised in Holland.
Matt’s favorite musical genres are rock and gospel, and his favorite Accent charity is the Humane Society. His passions include his relationships with Jesus, Naomi, Nya, and soccer, which begs the question, “You have a relationship with soccer?”
Due to his surname and the fact that “there’s always another Matt,” his inexorable nickname is Reeper, which literally means “harvester.” True to his name, Matt delivers a bumper crop for his clients, the company, and his family.
There’s only one “Maserati.” His nickname is the result of his surname not being pronounced the way it looks—not even close-- and the story of how he became a vital and admired member of our team is worth reading.
Just before COVID, Tommy and Kathy started taking dance lessons, and their class roster included four older couples and a friendly youth from Poland. Before and after each class, during which he demonstrated an uninhibited willingness to learn and proved to be a quick study, the Polish guy always exchanged a few friendly words with classmates, all of whom were at least one generation older.
He stood out as an engaging conversationalist—because he enjoys people and was trying to improve his English-- chatting with everyone about anything (e.g., “What are your favorite Jamaican deeshes? Mine are callaloo and jerk chicken.” Or, “Which muse-ee-kals have you seen in Europe? “I very much enjoyed “Les Miserables” in Budapest in 2014, and “Hello, Dolly” in Warsaw when I was a child.”)
At Showcases (grown-up recitals for painfully amateur dancers), he served as the volunteer videographer. After classes, he stayed and swept the dance floor. He rode a Harley or drove a Prius, greeted everyone by name, could walk on his hands and tell jokes at the same time, had a career in some high level of high tech, and described his hair color as “a mixture of translucent and bald; it’s the sexiest.”
One day in 2023, Kathy had to leave class early, taking the car and leaving Tommy to catch Uber. Tommy didn’t have the Uber app, so he asked the Polish guy to order him one. The Polish guy said something like, “I will comply with your request, but I have a 2012 Prius with CD player, and it gets excellent MPG, so perhaps it would be preferable if I drove you myself.”
Tommy accepted the ride, the two had a fun chat on the 20-minute trip, and the Polish guy steadfastly refused to accept gas money at the end.
Now, Tommy and Kathy have been in business for many years, and their home, while not over the top, does not exactly scream, “The people who live here have only one car!” Still, as the two parted that evening, the Polish guy said, “Tommy, I will pick you up and give you a ride to class each week if that is required. Since I have this 2012 Prius with CD player, and it is properly maintained with only 313,992 miles, the fuel expense would be negligible.”
Tommy rushed inside and told Kathy the story, then they told Phillip, then a three-pronged recruiting offensive ensued. Daniel was neither equipped nor prepared to defend, so he happily surrendered and joined our team. Just a few months later, he was one of our top producers, and he remains among the most devoted students of the craft.
“Maz” brings the same sincerity, work ethic, sweetness, curiosity, and intellect to his job as he does to his life. This makes him an outstanding, always-improving rep, a hit with clients from anywhere on earth, and a beloved and valuable teammate.
One of these days we’re going to call his folks and tell them that they can be pleased and proud of their boy in the States. As a client, you can request any sales rep by name, and Maz would be an enjoyable choice to invite for a discussion of your roof and who knows what else.
The reason we don’t have a suggestion box at Accent Roofing is because Beth would singlehandedly keep it stuffed. We’ve thought about giving her the nickname “Down, Girl,” but since that covers her assertive side but not her sweet side, it didn’t stick. She’s not critical but she is a can-do person, an idea person, and a self-described “fairness fairy,” all of which dovetail perfectly with her unique role.
Beth became a family friend in 1999. Over the next two decades she built a solid resume in retail management and was Team Mom for every squad that had either of her kids, Emily and Jake, on its roster.
In 2018 she dropped by one fine day to take her Emily (then an intern and now our marketing manager), to lunch. At that time, she mentioned that she wouldn’t mind a brief hitch at Accent to charge her batteries and catch her breath between demanding retail posts. Her request was eagerly granted, Covid-19 soon hit, and the rest—mwah-ha-ha—is history.
As Client Services Director, Beth assists “long-haul” clients, those who require from one month to several years to choose a contractor. While most clients choose a contractor within two weeks of receiving quotes, a fair number are more deliberate and need more attention. As a person who gets things done, and one gifted with inexhaustible patience, Beth meets such clients where they are and helps them feel great about their choice. In a word, she’s their angel (see Beth reviews, which are many and glowing).
For uncommonly thorough clients, she provides background information, technical assistance, creative financing, color and style consultation, and anything else a client might want or need. She’s in her wheelhouse when discussing endless “what ifs” and “how abouts.”
Beth wins many clients simply by outlasting less dedicated competitors. It’s no stretch to assert that every job she wins would not be won if it were not for her genuine interest and impeccable follow-up.
A Dalton (Catamounts) native and fan of the Yellow Jackets, Georgia Swarm, Chastain Park, Gas South District, Suwanee Town Center, Atlanta United, and anything that happens in Midtown, Beth and her beau (Steven) probably attend more live events than the rest of the staff combined. They usually leave their dogs, Shelby, Lola, and Blue at home and make it up to them with scrumptious leftovers.
As if to prove that you can take the girl out of Dalton but can’t take Dalton out of the girl, Beth has been voted “Most Likely to Bring Something Delicious that You Can Eat But Can’t Have the Recipe For.” She’s also a wizard with home remedies and domestic arts and crafts, as well as board games old and new.
She’s never met a charitable cause she doesn’t like and counts all the Accent-sponsored charities as her co-favorites. She also gets behind Susan G. Komen, Toys for Tots, and Collins Hill L They live in Dacula with an enviable view of the Trophy Club’s seventeenth fairway.acrosse, which is not exactly a charity but does run on a tight budget.
Fun Fact: For a “friend who’s impossible to shop for,” Beth recently suggested (see?) group burlesque lessons for a birthday girl in her book club. To no one’s surprise, a great time was had by all. To everyone’s mild surprise, no one was arrested.
Tom earned a double degree (political science and psychology) at Clemson (Tigers), then graduated from OCS and rose to the rank of captain in the Marine Corps. Upon his return to civilian life, he had a successful tenure in the medical device field. At that point, acting on a tip from Tom’s friend and fellow Marine, Bobby (see bio), Accent recruited him.
Along the way, Tom married the lovely Megan, a Clemson gal and sign language whiz. They’ve since added Wyatt and Emmy to their bunch. Along with their pooches, Remy and Rebel, they live on the family’s third-generation horse farm in Suwanee, where one of Tom’s hobbies is doing dirty work behind a herd of some 20 polo ponies. Never mind that he’s allergic to horses, he shovels through like a trooper.
Considering the solid resume he’s built, it’s mildly surprising that Tom chose a career at Accent over the Pentagon, but many clients are glad he did. A stickler for details and straight talk, Tom has amassed an enviable collection of rave reviews. He also wrote a program to improve the accuracy of consumption calculations for complex roofs.
At 6’1” and 200-and-none-of-your-business pounds, Tom needs a black belt in MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) like a Sherman tank needs a bicycle horn, but he’s got one just in case.
His favorite musical genres are Electronic Digital in the gym and Rock everywhere else, and his favorite leisure activity is anything with his wife and kids. The young ‘uns were not, however, invited when Tom and Megan took their recent 10th anniversary trip to Tulum.
We had to look up Tulum. Oh, there it is. Looks nice.
Fun Fact: The boys in the TBird room tried to nickname him “Tominator,” but when spellcheck insisted on changing that to “Dominator”, they ditched the mission. He remains Tom for now, and TBirds are hereby advised that nicknaming is not a game for amateurs.
